Living here in Iowa, you know where…”Corn is King”, algae is actually more productive. What I have read you can harvest algae about once a week with corn it is once a year and corn is subject to weather conditions during planting, and harvesting. The other nice thing is that you can make several products with your algae harvest i.e., diesel, ethonol, soap, cattle feed, and fertilizer. Once you get your system up and going you can be very busy and also make some income.

If a check valve, also refered to as a foot valve, were placed at the bottom of your suction line when the panel gets blocked by clouds the foot valve prevents the water from draining the pump and would not require repriming.

Hey Dan – The hurricane polycarbonate sheets you are talking about seem to be available in the southern states at Lowe’s. I am checking with the local Lowe’s here in Des Moines Iowa to see if inter store transfer can be done. FYI for everyone these are the ClearView Hurricane Polycarbonate Panels they come in 2 sizes 4′x6′ SKU# 258569 $88 and 4′x8′ SKU# 258571 $118. Hope this helps good luck to all.

Here. in central Iowa we also get winters with -30f air temp and -50 Wind chill makes ya appreciate Spring and Summer…LOL, for year round production I would build a 6′x8′ green house as listed then buy a second one for the panels to construct the Algae producers. Hey, can you explain the whats whys, and hows of this whole system, I mean I see how it works, and I assume you are providing sunlight, and warth throught the panel, but to what end?

Really interesting stuff. I heard about this, but I didn’t think it would be possible to do it as a homegrown project. Cant wait to see how you turn that into fuel. If everyone did this, the amount of CO2 scrubbed from the environment will seriously dent all the emissions being produced.
